Advertising involves many different aspects, one often over-looked aspect is the use of Racism in public advertising. Although many people feel as if this is no longer an issue, racism has been present in advertising for years. It is important to understand how other groups and individuals from varying races, ethnicities, or backgrounds are being portrayed. Many advertisers have begun to exploit the different races and ethnicities through stereotyping and focusing on a specific audience.
I believe it is never right to racially stereotype for an advertisement, no matter how well the advertisement might become. By adding racism within an advertisement, viewers will experience negative ideas through there advertising medium. Racism in advertising is definitely not a thing of the past. Although it has definitely toned down from the past, racist ideas will still come up in modern ads.

This advertisement is a great example of a racist image that is being presented by the Sony PLayStation brand. The image shows a large white woman grabbing the face of the smaller black woman. The text states “PlayStation Portable White is Coming,” this implies to readers the a newer, white version of the device will take over the black PSP. Although they are talking about video games, the advertisement portrays the two women in a way that can provoke racist ideas.
In my opinion the advertisement is demonstrating the idea of the white race being dominate over the black race, even though they are advertising about the color of the new PSP. Advertisers, such as the Sony ad team, must be aware of what they are showing the masses and the possible outcomes that come along. Advertisers definetly have ethical responsibilites that they must abide by in my opinion. Today we live in such a diverse community that advertisements need to be ethically correct and be appealing to a wide range of groups.

The image above isn’t really a traditional advertisement, but I believe they used the two babies to show how similar we are not only physically but also spiritually. I believe the image above is very powerful and very simple. We has humans might come from other areas and look different, but within we are all one. The quote above really stood out to me because we might look different, yet in the end all we have is our heart and souls.
